About me
Lucas started his career when he co-founded a charity called The Association for Coastal Ecosystem Services (ACES) with a former professor and other colleagues in Scotland. Having worked in Kenya as Trustee for ACES, the charity conserve endangered mangroves forests near the Tanzanian boarder, and have developed a flagship carbon offsetting project called Mikoko Pamoja (Mangroves United in Swahili), which has restored a degraded area of mangrove forest to support community development for poverty alleviation and mitigate the impacts of climate breakdown. Since then, Lucas has worked closer to home as CEO at Citizen Zoo, whose mission it is to rebuild a word filled with wildlife. Citizen Zoo’s focus is rewilding and community engagement, developing projects which have ranged from translocations, reintroductions, invasive species management and habitat restoration, to organising national events that bring practitioners, researchers and members of the public together, to help drive the sector forward (https://www.citizenzoo.org/).
Lucas will take part in a Panel on Practical Conservation, chaired by Tim Mackrill of Denis Roy Foundation.
